THE STRUCTURE OF THE COURSE:

This course is unique in its approach because of the substantial amount of information that will be assimilated and learned in a relatively short period of time. There are however, plenty of opportunities for interaction and role play.

Using extracts from personal experience and real cases studies as examples, the course is entirely practical.

TIMETABLE: London

Four days, divided into five course parts and a field trip.

DAY ONE: Part One
Covers: civil court procedures and the duties, skills and principles required to carry out solicitors' instructions.

DAY TWO:Field Trip
A day out of class which includes a tour of parts of the Inner Temple and Middle Temple as well as experience the Labyrinth that is the Royal Courts of Justice and learn how to find your way round this amazing place. Landmarks of 'Legal London' will be pointed out.

DAY THREE: Part Two
Covers: how to take notes in court during trials or hearings, the duties involved in assisting barristers during criminal trials and how to take statements from witnesses.

DAY THREE: Part Three
Covers: how to analyse a case file and extract relevant information in order to prepare and present an application before a District Judge in chambers.

DAY FOUR: Part Four

Covers: duties involved in attending an immigration interview and ensuring that your client's reasons and claims are fully represented and recorded and all about OISC accreditation.

DAY FOUR: Part Five

Covers: what to do when a client is arrested and how to protect your client's interests during a police interview. The accreditation requirement and what this means.

Field Trip: Students have the option of attending this part of the course in London.

At the end of the course we give you a test to do at home and subject to passing that, you will be sent your Certificate and a 'Guide to finding work as a freelance Paralegal'. This has proven to be extremely useful for students in finding work as a paralegal.

Our policy is to encourage our students to find work as opposed to offering their services free on work placements which does not ultimately guarantee a job.
